Y2856

Y2856 is a SEBS-g-MAH reactive compatibilizer with a grafting degree ≥0.8% and no plasticizing oil. It is used in low-smoke halogen-free flame-retardant cable compounds, PA/PC/PBT toughening modification, and polymer alloy systems, providing both compatibilization and toughening effects.

Y2856 is a maleic anhydride-grafted SEBS product in the SEBS-g-MAH series. This series is based on selected SEBS and uses an advanced reactive melt grafting process to efficiently graft maleic anhydride (MAH), producing high-performance functional polymers. The product features a high grafting degree (Y2856 grafting degree ≥0.8%) and contains no plasticizing oil, ensuring purity and performance stability.

By introducing polar maleic anhydride functional groups onto the nonpolar SEBS backbone, Y2856 can act as an efficient interface modifier, significantly reducing the interfacial tension between nonpolar phases and polar engineering plastics (such as PA, PC, and PBT) in polymer blends, enhancing the interaction between the two phases, and providing both compatibilization and toughening effects. This product has high solubility and blendability, is soluble in various organic solvents, and can be well blended with many polymers. Through the maleic anhydride functional groups, it imparts polarity and reactivity to SEBS, greatly improving compatibility with polar materials and playing a key “bridge” role.

Product Appearance: Natural-color pellets

Product Performance:

High grafting degree: A special process ensures efficient and uniform grafting of maleic anhydride, with a grafting degree ≥0.8% and abundant active sites.

Contains no plasticizing oil: The product is pure and free from oil bleed risk, making it especially suitable for applications with stringent requirements for purity, migration resistance, and long-term stability.

Excellent compatibility: Effectively improves compatibility between nonpolar polymers (such as SEBS, PP, and PE) and polar polymers or fillers (such as halogen-free flame retardants and engineering plastics).

Reinforcement and toughening: Significantly improves the tensile strength, elongation at break, and impact resistance of matrix materials.

Improved processing and appearance: Enhances the melt flowability of formulation systems, reduces processing difficulty, and gives articles excellent surface smoothness and a fine rubber-like feel.

Typical Applications:

Engineering plastics modification: This product can be used as a highly efficient toughening agent for the toughening modification of polyamides (PA), polycarbonate (PC), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), and other engineering plastics, significantly improving impact resistance and elongation at break. At the same time, as a reactive compatibilizer, it can effectively improve the interfacial compatibility of incompatible polymer alloy systems such as PP/PA, PC/PBT, and PA/ABS, refine the dispersed phase, and obtain high-performance alloy materials with balanced properties.

Polymer alloy compatibilizer: In incompatible alloy systems such as PPO/PA66, PC/PBT, and PA6/ABS, the addition of Y2856 can significantly improve interfacial adhesion and optimize phase morphology, thereby obtaining alloy materials with balanced properties.

Filled/reinforced composites: In glass fiber, mineral powder, wood powder, aluminum hydroxide, and other filled modified polyolefin and polyamide composite systems, this product acts as a polymeric interface modifier, strengthening the interfacial bonding between polar inorganic fillers and nonpolar resin matrices, reducing filler agglomeration, and effectively improving impact strength, tensile properties, and heat deformation stability of the composites. It also improves the interfacial adhesion between organic fibers (such as Kevlar) and polymer matrices, achieving reinforcement and toughening effects.

High-performance adhesives and coatings: Based on its good organic solvent solubility and reactivity, this product is suitable for preparing high-performance solvent-based adhesives or coatings. Especially in bonding applications for metals, glass, and polar engineering plastics (such as polyamides and polyesters), it can provide bonding strength superior to ordinary nonpolar elastomers.

Recommended Addition Level:

Thanks to its high grafting degree and high efficiency, Y2856 can exert significant effects at relatively low addition levels. The recommended addition range is usually 3%-10% of the total formulation. The specific optimal dosage should be optimized and adjusted according to the user’s base formulation system, target performance requirements, and processing technology.

Processing Recommendations:

Y2856 has good thermal stability, with a typical processing temperature range of 190-260°C. It is recommended to avoid prolonged exposure to temperatures above 260°C to prevent loss of anhydride group activity or decomposition. The final processing temperature should be optimized according to the specific formulation, equipment type, and process conditions. A small-scale trial is recommended before mass production.

Packaging and Storage:

Packaging: Paper-plastic composite packaging, 25 kg/bag. During transportation, avoid moisture, contamination, and direct sunlight.

Storage: Store in a ventilated, dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. This product is hygroscopic. After opening, it must be sealed and stored to prevent moisture. Avoid direct contact with strong acids, strong bases, and amine compounds to prevent premature reaction and failure.

Shelf Life: 12 months from the date of production under original unopened packaging and proper storage conditions.

Safety Precautions: Maintain ventilation during high-temperature processing. Wear protective gloves and goggles during operation, and avoid inhaling possible trace fumes. Do not store together with flammable or corrosive materials, and keep away from fire sources. For detailed safety information, please refer to the product SDS.
